This was the last shakedown cruise.  Several hours after this photo was taken the area was hit with torrential rains, lightning and high winds.  Fallen trees and a debris field were left in the storm’s wake.  The camping equipment had its first successful test.

After riding a 600 mile day we were hot and very exhausted.

We camped out our first night on the road in a KOA near Lake Okeechobee, Florida.  We stuck to our tight budget and decided to use the last of our daily money and drink our dinner in the campground bar.  We each had one drink and several free bowls of popcorn.

At $70 a night this hostel was the cheapest room in Key West.  The room was clean, had a nice shower and my all time favorite: air conditioning.

Key West

It is a tradition when doing long distance rides to gather ocean water from those visited.  Here, I am gathering my little bottle of water from the ocean at Key West.
