Haines, Alaska

This is one of the ferries that comes up the Inside Passage.  We chose to ride the ferry from Haines over to Skagway.  By water it is a mere 13 miles but over land it is 359 miles.

As we wait to load onto the ferry, we talk to some fellow long distance riders from Canada we met in a roadhouse on the Tok Cutoff road.

After a couple days in Skagway, we left Alaska but kept the incredible memories and visions with us.  But there was still more beauty ahead of us on our journey.

The Cassiar Highway

The highway is 450 miles from the cutoff of the Alaskan Highway to Highway 16, the Yellowhead Highway.  It was supposed to be 80% paved, but as luck would have it I think it was more like 40% paved at the time we chose to take this route.  Much of the “paved” sections were gone and potholes, mud, gravel and washboard had taken its place.
