As far as I am concerned this is the best view we had of Lake Tahoe. After being in the wilderness and woods for so long, the commercialization was just too much.  This western view of Lake Tahoe was taken leaving the area on Highway 50 heading into Carson City, Nevada

We were barely out of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, heading into the desert of Nevada and I was struck by the lack of vegetation on these mountains.

Virginia City, Nevada

We stopped for lunch in this historic mining town.  Virginia City was where the famous Comstock Load was found.  It was the mother load of all silver loads.  Mark Twain also got his start here at the local paper.

Heading east on Highway 50, nicknamed The Loneliest Road in the World.  I picked this route as it was marked a scenic route on the map.  Little did I know that we were in for a real treat.  This entire road should be a national park, it is that beautiful.

Sand Mountain

As we passed by this sand mountain we noticed jeeps and four wheelers heading for the sand.

This was an actual stop for the Pony Express riders.  Most of Highway 50 covered the original route the riders took heading east and west.  Naturally, we had to stop and rest as well.
