As promised to Amanda, I dipped Grizzle Bear’s feet into the Arctic Ocean.  I also gathered my other bottle of water.  I actually gathered ice in my bottle from the Arctic Ocean.

Prudhoe Bay, Alaska

One last look at the frozen Arctic Ocean.  It was in the low thirties when we arrived in and departed from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.

Pit stop on the Haul Rd.  After making a quick pit stop on the side of the road, I noticed that Ralph’s back tire had a nasty slash in the tread.  We still had over 400 miles left to travel over gravel, pot holes, washboard and tennis ball size cobblestone.  Though he carried a tire repair kit, the size of the cut, if it decided to blow, would not be repairable.

View looking south from the Haul Road.

What an unbelievable ride.  Almost 1,000 miles of gravel, bumps, pot holes, cobblestone, washboard, dust, slick mud, exhaustion and exhilaration.  But also, some of the most beautiful wilderness on earth, a prehistoric place, a soul grabbing place.
